Amsterdam to Cologne (Koln)

The train trip from Amsterdam to Cologne was very comfortable and efficient. It really pays to reserve your seats with your ticket purchase, otherwise you will get moved on pretty quickly. We had a four booth section to ourselves all the way. Enjoyed our sandwiches Michael made for us before we left. The trip took us just over 3 hours.

It was strange to see dogs on the train. Two huge dogs were being led by different owners

We did share a sausage roll before we left Amsterdam Centraal ( see other post). Michael is still convinced they are the best ever.

The views from the windows included mostly countryside scenes, complete with old fashioned windmills (a few) and lots of (new) windmills. The canals are beautiful and well used for local industry.

Our plan is to see Cologne (Koln) today and to get some advice about walking trails along the Rhine. We needed to cut some of our walking time down to allow us to fit in the house sitting assignment.

Our first stop tomorrow (25/6) should be Wessling – about 18Km out of Cologne . This could be way too ambitious considering we are lugging our backpacks. We want to get to Bonn by Thursday (26/6).
