Bonn to Sankt Goar
We caught the train this morning from Bonn through Koblenz to Sankt Goar. Much of this trip followed the Rhine River. Very beautiful. It took almost two hours.
We had booked a cute hotel -Hotel Rheinfels – a cheap room, only €65 including breakfast, and we left our bags there so we could explore the surrounds.
We caught a tourist train up the hill to the famous castle ruins and explored this area and the views before returning to the cute township. Only about 3000 people live here, but it is a popular tourist destination. There were ferries of all sizes coming and going during the day. We caught one across the river to Sankt Goarhaus. It is smaller and not as many tourists as in Sankt Goar. After we caught the ferry back, we bought a new beer to us ( Flensburger Pilsener) to share on the banks of the river. Fantastic and only €1.50.
For lunch we chose the busiest restaurant and ordered the daily specials. I had potato dumplings and Michael had strips of beef with fries and mushroom sauce. We also tried a Riesling – the best wine so far in Germany. €20!
While we were eating lunch it absolutely poured with rain. This may impact on our plans to walk tomorrow.
We are both excited to see the rural Germany.
