The sun tried hard to come out today and so we headed to town to buy some essentials .
While beer and wine is dearer here than at home, milk is cheap. We buy a 4 pint bottle of unhomogenised milk for £1.20.
We had lunch at a local cafe and then went for a beer at The Vaults- the supposed “drinking pub”. Michael tried a Scottish black beer and I tried a different cider – Farmhouse ‘something’. I took a photo of Michael in this pub as it has a very interesting ceiling. Looks like everything is upside down. We saw a very interesting thing while we were there. There was one customer sitting at the bar who helped himself to a little more Guinness from the tap while the only bartender was busy elsewhere. He topped up his pint glass but we were not about to get involved. This is the pub that has the reputation for being the roughest one.
The walk to and from town takes us through some narrow sections of local and minor roads, but mostly through farmers’ fields where corn and apples are growing, and sheep are grazing and rabbits ‘stealing’.
We also have to climb two stiles along this route. I have included some photos of the walk so you can enjoy it to. You will notice we have our backpacks full of goodies and Michael is also carrying some extra supplies of bread. We buy ‘doorstop’ loaf which has slices that are about an inch thick. Delicious toasted.
