This town is one of Germany’s best preserved medieval towns with walls we walked around.
I know I seem to be saying this often….. but this was a very beautiful town. I took way too many photos and have only included a few here on the blog. The town is famous for a sweet pastry in the shape of a cricket ball called Shneeballenträume. The ‘balls’ are covered in different coatings of sugar, coconut, chocolate etc. We did not try one due to our sugar-free diet at the moment. Even though Germany is famous for beautiful desserts (and we have seen many) we both agree we would prefer to drink the different beers than eat the sweets. A small price if one has to make a choice!
We paid to go to a the Reichsstadtmuseum €4 each plus €3 if we wanted to take photos. First time we have had to pay for this but an interesting way to get some more revenue.
The museum houses displays that depict the history of the imperial city. It is housed in the old Dominican Cloister (13th Century). We were engrossed in the displays for hours before our feet reminded us it was time to go. The displays of weapons, including the hunting ensemble of Marie Antoinette, was so interesting.
There is possibly lots more to see here, but we are pleased with the sites we chose today
We enjoyed a beer before a well earned rest.
