We picked up our hire car a short walk away from our hotel. It is a little VW. Very new, very clean and easy to drive.

Michael always gets so anxious when we drive “on the wrong side of the road”. He needs to know exactly where we are, while I am happy to ‘wing it’ a little and if we miss a turn off we can go around until we get back to where we should be. Anyway, we made it to where we wanted to go and there were no fights.

We travelled almost 80 kilometers along the famous Romantic Road today. There was very little traffic and we noticed lots of Gasthofs (guest houses in each small village). We want to stay in these each night this week but we were too frightened to not book rooms for tonight and tomorrow, however, we feel very reassured we do not need to do this for the rest of the trip. The Gasthofs provide breakfast and usually a German meal at night. The price for tonight at Gastof Bezold is €80 (not including dinner).
