Nördlingen

Our final stop for today was yet another walled town – Nördlingen. Famous because you can walk the full circle around the town’s wall (which we will attempt to do tomorrow.)

We had booked a room in a hotel within the old town attached to the famous restored cloisters which was originally the monastery for an order of bare-footed monks. After the Reformation, the building was used to store grain and now it is a hotel and restaurant. Very adaptable!

We explored the town for a few hours in the afternoon. It is quite a big town with lots of shops and facilities.

Michael was excited about seeing a vintage Bentley just outside our hotel so I had to take of photo of him with it.

We have noticed that in all of the towns along the Romantic Road there is a lot of construction / repair work occurring to water and sewerage pipes, roads and old houses. It appears to us that the Germans are keen to keep the facades of the old towns while ensuring they have all the modern facilities.

The weather today was overcast with a cool breeze. Perfect for sight seeing. The crowds are nothing like we have experienced in Italy for example. It is very pleasant strolling along the cobble stone roads.

We travelled just over 80 km today.
