Day cruise on the Mosel River – Day 3

The cruise took almost five hours to get to our final destination of Traben-Trarbach where we stopped for one and a half hours. The trip back was supposed to take only four hours as we were going with the flow of the river but we had to wait longer at two of the locks.

Michael was enthralled with the locks we needed to pass through and insisted on us sitting outside for the first half of the trip, even though it had rained and everything was wet!

Michael estimated that the locks helped us change a height of ~ 9 metres.

We saw lots and lots of grapes under cultivation on very steep slopes and we also saw workers in the vineyards trimming the vines and spraying them for ??

There were many camping grounds along the river with tents and fisherman. We never saw anyone catch a fish.

We passed an Avalon Cruise and thought how we could be on that, but we had made the choice to travel the Mosel on our own. No regrets. This is fantastic.

We also saw a few low flying (army) planes, a group of women celebrating something, plus several boats that looked like a cars.

We had to drink Moselle on the Mosel. It was pretty bad BUT we had to do it.

The trip cost us €32 each which we thought was pretty good.

FOOT NOTE- you will notice the photos of the alcohol free beer. We have seen this on most menus and gave it a go. It is pretty good, definitely the best low/no alcohol beer either of us has tried.

Tonight we are off to a wine tasting at one of the wine cellars. They take it in turns to run tastings in Cochem. It will cost us €6 each.
