Train trip to Traben-Trarbach – Day 4 on the Mosel River

Michael was in his element today and he had organised the itinerary. He loves trains.

After booking into our apartment for one more night….. We caught a train from Cochem to Bullay which took us through the Kaiser Wilhelm tunnel constructed in 1887. The tunnel cuts across a huge meander of the Mosel River ( it was a 10 minute train ride compared with almost three hours on the ferry yesterday).

We then changed to a smaller train and travelled through a second tunnel. It took us 20 minutes to travel from Bullay to Traben-Trarbach on the train, while it took us 2 hours yesterday to travel the same distance on the ferry.

We explored Traben-Trarbach and found a large supermarket so we stocked up for the next two days. Certainly cheaper than eating out.

While we were in Traben-Trarbach we ate our picked lunch and I found a cafe where I bought a take away wine. I don’t think they do that very often but it was good fun.

Tonight we will wander through Cochem’s street once the crowds leave. You can hardly move between 11 am and 5pm with bus and ferry loads of people. We saw a little of it last night on the way home from the wine tasting.

Included are some photos of the railway lines and views from the train.

It is important to note that we passed across a rail bridge for both cars and trains. The ONLY one in Germany. The trains travel along the top.
