Cochem to Trier – Day 6 on the Mosel

We made our way to our Trier apartment in the oldest suburb of the city, called Pfalzel. The train trip from Cochem took us less than an hour.

Our first task was to use the washing machine. It is amazing how much you miss access to this type of technology. We have found it impossible to find a laundromat in Germany. We have been washing though – but it has only been hand washing.

I was very excited about our next adventure. We rode push bikes from our apartment to the centre of the old city in Trier. It took us just under 30 minutes and I loved it.

We strolled and rode around the city to just get our bearings, and then we caught the train home. We felt very “local”. It almost turned to disaster when we could not get the train door to open at our stop. Thank goodness for a nice young man who helped us and another old couple otherwise we were on our way to Cologne!

We took a walk around our little suburb of Pfalzel and we were impressed by the history and cute buildings. We found a nice hotel right on the Mosel. We were its only customers, but we enjoyed the view.

We love our little apartment and have made plans for the next four days while we are here. Our last days in Germany. One of these days will be spent visiting Luxembourg – a 43 minutes train ride away.

The photos show us on our bikes, some of the sights of Trier (although we will more seriously look at these tomorrow) our apartment and the pub in Pfalzel.
