One more wine tasting

After my last post where I was pretty scathing of German wine tasting, we decided to try one more. We found this one when we undertook or walk to Klotten.

We were glad we did as it was very different, and the wine was not bad.

We arrived a little before 3pm for the cellar tour and tasting to find out the staff were sick and this would not occur. Instead we were offered some wines to taste and after working out which ones we liked, we then bought a glass of the wine and sat outside to enjoy the Mosel River. We were joined by a German couple from Cologne who tried very earnestly to talk with us. Their English was better than my German and we mostly understood what was being said.

We learnt a bit more about German wine growing. The cheaper wine is that which grows on the flatter land. The flatter ground produces many more litres of grape juice and is cheaper to work. Most importantly, the wine grown here is less complex than the wines grown on those very steep slopes I have mentioned in earlier posts.

The host was critical of the wine grower we had been to previously for the wine tasting.

Perhaps not all German wine and wine tastings are like the one we tried a few nights ago.
