Japanese Experience

We had read that Guu Izakaya around the corner from where we were staying was an experience not to be missed. Apparently, people line up just to get a seat. We decided to head out early and could not believe how busy it was. We had to wait for more than 30 minutes to get a table but luckily there was room on the patio where we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink and had a chance to decipher the menu.

Whenever anyone arrives, leaves or is seated at the restaurant, all the staff yell something out in Japanese. One of the staff says a phrase and all the rest yell it back.

Once seated the service was very quick and as we were sitting at the bar, we could see all the food being cooked.

Michael chose sashimi salad, carpaccio of beef and okonomiyaki while I chose miso soup, fried white fish and pork mince and egg served in a heated stone bowl which cooked at the table.

We really enjoyed all dishes and the price was very reasonable.
