Canterbury Cathedral Service

This morning we headed off early to attend the 8am Communion Service at Canterbury Cathedral. Along with about 20 other people we took our seats in the choir area, facing others seated across the aisle. The alter was up to our right and well away from us. The service had many similarities to the Catholic Mass, but there were also lots of differences. The first one being we had a female priest who did not face the congregation for most of the service. Only one collection, or we think it was a collection. We were the only ones who put money in, the others had a blue card or envelope they placed in the small fabric bag.

It was great being in Canterbury so early as there was no traffic and we found a car park very close to the Cathedral precinct. Later, we found the parking area we could have accessed had we done a bit more homework. We walked down Burgate Street in Canterbury passed quaint shops until we found the main gate to the cathedral. The photos are a bit dark, but it was only 7.45am.

The dogs waited patiently for us to return and we very pleased to see us as it was breakfast time. The sun came through briefly this morning and we headed out into the Kent countryside for our morning stroll. It is beautiful around here.
