Déjeuner at La Brucelière in Issigeac

Apologies before I start this post, as it will include way too much information about our lunch BUT it was the best meal we have ever had in France.

Melinda our hostess had told us about this very popular restaurant only 10km away and advised us we needed to book, which I did successfully a few days earlier. And boy was it worth it.

A three course menu cost €23 (~AU$34) and a four course menu €31(~AU$45.5o) (not including drinks or a tip). We got to choose from four options in each course, and I am so glad we only went with the three courses.

Michael was excited about his first aperitif – a local cider. As I was driving, I chose a l’eau.

This restaurant was much fancier than the one we went to yesterday and it was quite popular.

After we had selected our three courses, we were served some small nibblies to start with. These included petit quiches and a vegetable dish with anchovies.

Michael ordered the terrine of duck,

And I chose a dish of crustaceans and mushrooms in a pasta parcel with a creamy sauce. Wow!

Michael had a rare steak with green peppercorns and I had slow cooked veal (remembering my braces) which were served with the most wonderful vegetables.

My sugarfree diet went out the window this afternoon as I had to try a French pastry. I chose “le grand choux à la crème de mascapone pistache” which I thought would be a profiterole filled with pistachio flavoured mascapone. I was correct, but could never have imaged the taste. Wow.

DURING

This was the first time I had tasted a physalis (the small orange fruit), but unfortunately it does not show up in these photos.

Michael chose some cheeses for his third course and was able to choose from an amazing selection.

As if this was not enough, we were then treated to a small dish of what we think was melted caramel ice cream or custard and a small piece of banana cake. But who knows?

Before I drove us home we went for a walk around Issijeac. This is definitely our favourite village in this area. There was a crowd gathering for a wedding this afternoon as well. Picture perfect.
