Market Day in Issigeac

Almost our last market, you’ll be pleased to read. But we are now experts after having attended so many, and we concluded that this one was the best in Périgord.

As Issigeac is not a bastide, there is no central market square and so the stalls spewed out along the narrow streets in all directions. Some of the stalls we had seen before, but there were some new ones as well.

Michael was keen to buy some more of the local beer and cider he had bought on our way through last Monday. Surprisingly, there was none of that left at home.

We bought some unpasteurised milk and yoghurt from the farmer where we had to pay a deposit on the bottle and jar. We won’t be able to collect that as we will be gone next Sunday.

Many of the stall holders were enjoying a bottle or two of their local wine. Perhaps they even made it. I tried to capture a picture here. If you look closely at the back right hand side of the table you may spot some glasses and a half empty bottle of vin rouge. It certainly seemed to help them enjoy their day out.

Michael was again attracted to the poissonier tent and he selected the fish he will buy to cook for Melinda when she returns on Tuesday.

As we have now been to this village a few times, we even knew some people to say Bonjour to. Like the lady who served us at our restaurant yesterday and one of the patrons, plus the lady who sells Michael his beer. Definitely a lovely morning.
