A Baby Boomer’s traveller’s tip on Wroclaw

Don’t visit on a weekend if you have a choice.

We didn’t have a choice, and while we love the city, to us a weekend in Wroclaw is like Schoolies’ Week in the Gold Coast. But with several big differences.

1. There are very few security guards in licenced establishments, either that or they are on their smoke break.

2. There is no such thing as RSA – responsible service of alcohol. If you can order a drink, or get someone to order one for you, you can have it.

3. There is no such thing as closing time. Venues seem to operate on a 24 hour timeframe.

4. Even though we saw lots of police in Kraków, we have not noted as many here, and if there are yobbos yelling out of a window or in the main street at 6 pm or 3 am… Nothing appears to happen.

5. Most of the noisy groups here comprise men in their 30’s to 40’s on what looks to be end-of-season football tours.

Our accommodation right in the old town put us in the most popular bar and restaurant area. I just wonder if it is quieter during the week.

When I asked Edward which Polish city should we spend the most time in, he said Kraków. He was correct.

But, don’t get me wrong, this city is fantastic.
