We had a fabulous flight with Singapore Airlines and caught the train into town near our hotel, arriving about 11am. We had to walk a few blocks and by the time we found our hotel we both needed a cool shower. Luckily our room was ready.
We are staying in Little Indian and the blurb said “spacious room” – but it is not much bigger than our walk-in wardrobe at home. But, it is very clean and beautifully air conditioned.
We headed out for a walk to find some lunch. There is absolutely no shortage of places to eat in this area, but negotiating the footpaths avoiding the changes in the heights, the holes in the roads and the diners sitting on seats outside kitchens, makes this an exciting and challenging sojourn.
Michael tried to encourage me to try the fish head steamboat at this restaurant, but I would not be in it. We eventually found a shopping mall called the Tekka Centre which is supposed to have good food, so Michael had what looked like tandoori chicken and rice (which was called Dum Nasi Briyani for $4.30AU) and I had an egg and onion prata ($1.40AU) and we shared a green coconut juice ($1.70AU).
We then tried to walk off some of our lunch by carefully negotiating the footpaths around some more streets. I bought a cool dress and some sandals.
If you have been here before you will recognise these colourful buildings from this part of Singapore. The last photo is of a Hindu Temple that is thought to have been started about 1855 and which today is getting a much-needed makeover.
