Unfortunately we did not have time to enjoy a dip in the Artesian Spa Pool in Blackall. It looked inviting, but this morning it was way too cold.
So we headed off around 8.30 am passing through Tambo before stopping for morning tea in Augathella. This little town of 430 people is famous for its colourful past with bushrangers and bullockies. It also has a famous sculpture of a meat ant.
We had thought of staying here when we were planning our trip. So glad we didn’t.
We stopped for lunch in Mitchell on the Maranoa River. This was a great little town. We enjoyed a swim in the Artesian Spa where the water temperature was 38C and the outside temperature 17C. This was a fabulous luxury. The water was so clear and had no smell to it. At $8 each it was great value. Although for that price we could have come and gone as much as we’d like for the day. Pity we only had half an hour.
We then had only a short distance (<90Km) to our destination (Roma) for the night. It was 50Km from Roma that we spotted the first cropping activity. There was some huge crops of wheat and pasture that looked pretty good.
Unfortunately, when we got to Roma there were no vacancies so Michael continued to drive to Miles. This made today a very long drive – 632 Km.
We booked into a very basic park on the edge of Miles and set ourselves up the night. It had no kitchen, but we spotted a BBQ across the road which we used for our dinner.
We have only a short drive to Toowoomba tomorrow where we will catch up with Maree and Darryl.
One good thing that happened today was that I got phone reception from just outside Roma all the way to Miles. I have not been able to use my phone for the last few days, and had it not been for a weak little wifi signal at last night's caravan park I would have been suffering bad withdrawal symptoms.
A pretty uneventful drive today, although we had to keep our eyes open for the wildlife which continued to be very prevalent.
