This mountain towers over Lugano at 900+m high. Some people do walk to the top, but we decided to take the funicular. A return ticket should have cost us CHF 30 each, but because we had bought that one-day pass, the tickets were half price. I felt better then as our investment had indeed paid off.
The funicular is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, but thankfully it was not the original train we rode on. It was a very steep climb and about half way, the train stopped and we changed to another train which took us to the very top.
The views were amazing. In the photo below, Mick is contemplating the cruise we went on a little earlier.
There is a church on top of this mountain. It is possible to climb onto e roof of the church in order to get a 360° view. I chose to walk to the top to get some spectacular shots. Mick’s knees were playing up so he waited below for me.
Can you spot Mick on the ledge on the right?
Looking south into Italy.
We had perfect weather for our excursion to this mountain. There were very few people exploring it with us, which too surprised us as it is school holidays here. Anyway, our lucky day. We finished off our trip with lunch at a pubin Paradiso.
