Out on the Town – Solar 31

I was wrong, this restaurant was only 30m from where we were staying, BUT there were five other restaurants before we got to this one. Mick was confused about which one to go to.

But, we chose this one based on great reviews on TripAdvisor.

This was a different experience because the chef Paulo came out and talked to us about what to choose. He talked us out of ordering a meal each, suggesting that we buy one meal and share and if we were still hungry after that we could order more. We chose some oysters (4) to start with and they were fantastic.

We then had octopus that he had boiled for four hours and then grilled and pan fried in garlic, oil and coriander while we waited and drank some green wine.

One of the waiters then came and cut the octopus in half and served us on our separate plates. It was an amazing taste, very different from baby octopus. I have never eaten this before.

The chef spoke to every table while we were there and recommended different selections to each one. The fish, the crabs and the prawns looked amazing. This chef was a very clever business man.

We could not eat any more, so asked for our bill. We were surprised to find that we had been charged for the bread roll, olives and cheese we nibbled on as starters. But, we found these on our table when we arrived and wrongly assumed these were gratis. A beat sneaky though.
