We are staying in the new area of Ronda, and while we have been down to the Puento Nuevo, today we decided to venture across it to explore the southern side – La Ciudad. This older part of Ronda has strong Moorish influences. It is very cute indeed, and at 10.00am, we did not have to share it with too many others.

We needed a breakfast stop on this walk, and Mick chose the tostadas – which we thought was toast, and were correct as you can see.

But, what was interesting was the dish of tomato purée that was served with it, along with strawberry jam and butter. It was very tasty, but Mick added some salt!
The El Tajo gorge is impressive, and it is what brings thousands of tourists to this town to see it. Every direction you look brings some new beauty. It is quite narrow, being only 68m at its widest part and up to 120m deep.

We wandered the cute narrow streets of Ciudad, trying to get our bearings in order to find the Arab Baths as we want to visit them on another day. We did, as usual, become a little lost. But this shot of Mick shows a different view of Ronda – all the white buildings. This area of Andalucia is famous for its Pueblos Blancos – White Towns. We hope to visit a smaller pueblo blanco next week if we can work out how to buy a return bus ticket.
We visited the New Bridge Interpretation Centre as part of the combined ticket we bought on our first day. This was a pretty terrible display. We did get the chance to walk down some steps to be a little bit underneath the bridge and enter a room that had a number of TV monitors that had some films of the bridge and Ronda locals on loop. But it was not something that was very easy to watch. If you are running short of time, you could easily skip this one.
We are planning to head back to the old part of town this afternoon to visit the Wine Interpretation Centre. Our entry is included in our ticket too.

Supposedly we will get to taste some of Ronda’s vino. Will let you know how that goes.
