Ronda to Granada

The first thing we found out today was there is NO train from Ronda to Granada. This was despite the fact that we had tickets saying there was.

We found out at the Ronda Railway Station that we could catch the train only as far as Antequera Santa Ana, about an hour away, and then we would have to get off the train and catch a bus to Granada. This obviously has been the case for some time. No trains come in or out of Granada and it explains why I could not get a train from here to Córdoba – we are catching a bus on Sunday from here at midday.

We passed heaps of wind turbines and solar farms during our hour on the train. It makes good sense for this country.

The reason there are no trains in Granada is because there is a massive new infrastructure program underway to allow this part of Spain to have very fast trains. I took this photo from the bus showing some of the overhead tracks that have been built. It will be wonderful in a few years time!

Yes, we were in the very back seat and the bus was full. It was nowhere near as comfortable as the train.

I also found out that when I printed off my train tickets at home before I left, I should not have cut off the bottom half of the ticket. I thought it was just advertisements and I was trying to save on bulky vouchers. The conductor was very nice and just told me I should not have done it. I am worried though, as we have one more train trip to go and I have cut those tickets off too!

As you know, I was worried about getting into our apartment here in Granada. I had hoped we could be met at 5pm, but was prepared to wait until after 8pm. The train was late getting to Ronda and the bus got us into Granada after the time I had thought, so we rushed off to get here just in case.

Granada is very different to Ronda. I think we have been spoilt in the last week. Loads of graffiti here.

Luckily Mick had picked up a map of Granada in Ronda. He got us here without a hitch. Just before 5pm, a nice young man arrived to let us in. He was the boyfriend of the girl who should have let us in …….. I think!

We are on the fourth floor and unfortunately, the lift is broken. It was a pretty tough slog with our bags. It looks very comfortable though, but there is no wifi, so I need to find a bar or cafe to keep in touch for the next few days. Bummer.

We are staying in the Muslim area of Granada – Albaicin. There are loads of kebab shops and Arabian clothing shops and restaurants – it is very Moorish.

We headed off to get our bearings and will start exploring tomorrow. This will be one street we will spend some time in tomorrow.

And perhaps this street too!

Mick posed outside the Plaza Nueva. We thought about a Segway tour, but think we will explore the city on foot. Several tourist officers approached us very politely suggesting ideas, and we will think about them tonight. We are just happy to be here with the washing machine working on overtime.

Unsure if our host knows about Google Translate – take a look at one of the signs he has left for us!
