French Fare

One of the many things we love about spending time in a different country is the opportunity to try the food. Sometimes we are not too sure what it is, but usually we will give it a go.

We found these growing in the garden and thought they looked like some fruit we had tried two years ago when we were house sitting in the Dordogne – physalis or cape gooseberry. My sister Megan grows them too.

The ones here were a deeper orange than the ones we had tasted before but we are pretty sure they are the same thing. Tonight Mick is going to use them in a sauce with …..

……… some quail he bought yesterday. Four quail for $6AU! Now that is super cheap. He also bought for himself some pork rissoles wrapped in intestines.

I made a mushroom and lentil soup for dinner last night and I needed some kale or spinach. All we could find was this.

I’ve used google translate to try and find out what it is, but all I can work out is where it came from and that it was picked by hand. If you know, I’d like to know 🤔 as well. It tasted ok and the soup turned out a treat.

Well, at least I liked it.

We also bought these and they are a yummy Italian snack. Never had them before either but can recommend them.

The quail looked beautiful.

We enjoyed them as you can see.
