We pass through this village every time we go to Perpignan. It always looks very pretty from the bus so today our plan was to spend a few hours wandering through this village exploring it up a little closer. Apparently there are about 1800 people who live here.
Our first stop was the square where we had a coffee.
The cute little streets did not disappoint.

We found the main church – Saint Etienne et Saint Vincent. While it looked similar to other village churches, there were two surprises.

Surprise 1 – a very ornate chapel that you could see in a much bigger church, and ….

Surprise 2 – directly opposite was this one ….
As we closed the door on our way out as the sign requested us to because of the cats, we heard music playing over a loud speaker followed by an announcement. Of course we did not understand the message but a short while later we noticed more speakers in other streets. Perhaps it is their way of keeping the community up to date. You can see Mick looking very French enjoying his baguette in this short video of the announcement.
We then set off to find the Chapel of Saint Vincent. It was a much older church up a hill and this is where I took the first photo in this post.

Once back in Caudiés, we went to the local cave (wine tasting shop). This was the first time it was open when we were in town. We enjoyed hearing about the different local wines and we tried several of the ‘bigger’ red ones. None was too expensive and all were very good. We left with a sample of three that should last us a day or two 🍷 .

These ranged in price from €5.50-€8 each.
I also spotted where they sold wine in bulk ..

Note the (garden?) hoses in the photo. We decided against that option but we left with what is called here as buying wine in “a bag in a box”.

5 L for €22! I’ll let you know what it is like later on. 😁
We are catching the bus to Ceret tomorrow- it will be market day there and they are supposed to be excellent.
