We had attended the markets in this village in 2009 when we spent a week in an apartment in a neighbouring village called Amélie Les Bains. That was our first ever holiday in France and we had loved it.

After leaving home at 8am, and with bus changes and travel times, we arrived in Céret at 11.00am.

This gave us about an hour and a half to explore the markets before the stall holders began to pack away their goods.

It wasn’t long before Mick found someone to talk to; an Englishman who had worked in Broken Hill. His French partner makes the most beautiful chocolates from a minimum of 97% cacao and sans sucre! That did it for me. I bought a small box of treats from her to put away for Christmas 🎄. At €100/kg, I hope they can last that long. 😍

We had planned to eat lunch at a restaurant but the homemade produce at the markets was too tempting. Mick found the “best sausage roll ever”, made from paté and other delicious things, while I had a pizza with olives and onions and no cheese or tomato sauce.

With a good hour to spare before the bus to Perpignan, we visited the local art museum/ gallery. All the works we saw – paintings, sculptures and pottery – were either produced by the artists while they were living in or visiting Céret. Picasso was heavily featured in the gallery.
A little bit more exploring ……

…. and the we spent the last 50 minutes at the bus stop to make sure we did not miss our connection.

Mick enjoyed a snooze on the park bench after he double checked the time and I watched the local teenagers ‘hang out’!

[…] These markets were not as busy as we remembered them from last time we were here. […]
