Now That’s a Baguette!

We headed to Espéraza this morning for the Sunday markets. We had such a great time last week and Mick wanted to buy another bottle of Banquette (a sparkling wine from this region) he had bought last Sunday.

We had visited this boulangerie last week where we had bought our usual loaf – Baguette Rustiqe for €1.05. Today there was a line up to get in. When I took this photo there would have been another dozen people behind us.

We were there to buy some of this loaf which is sold by the kilo.

Luckily for us, it was popular so we could observe the protocol for ordering it. The attendant would come out from behind the counter and slice off a hunk. We saw about half a metre disappear while we waited our turn.

Mick cleverly thought to say “la même chose” and pointed to the lady in front of us who had bought about a kilo and had had it sliced. With a baguette and a croissant as well as our hunk of bread, I received change from €5. Not bad.

Sadly, the wine maker Mick had met last week was not there today and the Blanquette he tasted at the markets today was just not as good, so we stopped in Quillan and bought a bottle of the very well known brand Blanquette de Limoux. The photo shows our sliced bread as well, and the pussy cat that is not injured.

Mick also made another very important purchase.

I’ll let you know how he goes. 🐭 🐭
