Cucugnan

We had spotted this mill on a very quick drive through the village of Cucugnan about ten days ago.

We couldn’t stop then as we had to be back to our animals. We were both really glad we returned today, and even happier I parked the car on the edge of the village.

Narrow streets (which gave us both a fright on our first visit as I drove through them), filled with little homes … …

… loads of auberges (accommodation and restaurant combos),  artisans and Christmas trees.

If the road to the village was not so hilly and windy, this would be a village I could be tempted to stay in for a long time.

The windmill is next to an operating flour mill; not the original one, on the contrary, a very modern and impressive affair.

As it happened, we arrived at a perfect time today, as the artisanal baker was demonstrating how he cooked the bread from the flour they made in the wood-fired oven.

There was a small group of people watching as part of a tour group that we just tagged onto. I only needed to push through a few of them to get a clear photo (only joking).

This ultra modern shop was attached to the bakery, so we bought a coffee and a very small biscuit each to share. Delicious!

As we were leaving the village, Mick stopped to pick a Prickly Pear.
