Rockin’ in Riga

We were so lucky we’d booked a table for last night on our first night in Riga.

We had the best seat in the wine cellar.

It was an open-mike jazz night, so not quite Latvian folk music, but the jazz had a difference about it.

That photo was taken from our table!

The food was not as good as last night. I think there were too many people. Mick chose the local goulash with mash for €6.50.

I was happy with the French red wine, plus a risotto.

We shared a local dessert of beer dumplings for €3.60.

Our waitress was the same one from the previous evening. Having been there three nights in a row we were known by some of the staff.

When our bill arrived it did not include any of our drinks – the most expensive part.

Of course we owned up and our bill went from €17.50 to €45.50.

Our new friend was pleased too as her tip was bigger too.

FOOTNOTE

As we prepare to leave Latvia we have realised that for the first time in a European city there is no attempt to recycle. Or none that we noticed. All rubbish goes in the same black plastic bag. There is no deposit on any bottles – glass or plastic. It seems an anomaly after we learnt yesterday that Latvia is one of only two countries in the world to have a Green Party President.
