Lunch in Seillans

Mick was feeling much better today, so our “date” was back on.

We headed out about 11am as we wanted to further explore the cute village of Seillans before lunch.

Our first stop was the Office de Tourism where we paid €3 each to ascend about twenty very steep stairs to view some of the works of Max Ernst and his partner Dorothea Tanning. They lived here in Seillans from 1964 until his death in 1971. She later donated a lot of his lithographs to the village.

We were not sure what this next exhibit meant and we could find no description for it. Any guesses?

It consisted of a large bed with a big round mirror mounted at the base. The glass panel on the floor is displaying some of the original building beneath it.

Mick captured me here with some of Dorothea’s works.

As you can see, there was no one else in the gallery when we were there.

We’d been instructed to turn on the lights and once finished to turn them off again. Obviously the village is keen to save on energy.

We then walked through some of the narrow streets of the village …

Mick was keen to go in this direction down towards the main part of town.

When we’re driving through the village we often have to stop at these lights so the traffic can take it in turns to drive through the narrow street.

I loved this mural – the date above the arch says 1601.

We eventually made it to some of the artisan shops and viewed beautiful artworks and jewellery, but we successfully resisted the temptation to buy anything.

Next stop was a bar Mick was keen to have a beer at.

Check out the size of the tree. Massive. It was lovely and cool beneath it next to fresh running water in the fountain.

Finally, it was time for lunch.

We were seated next to the fountain here as well which was great.

It was very busy with a huge celebration taking place at tables adjoining ours after I took this photo. Lots of cheek kissing and rosé consumed while we were there. By them, not us!

We were both happy with our selections. Mick had Beef Tartare and I had the Plat du Jour which today was paella.

We made it safely home just before a huge thunder storm. The dogs were pleased we were there to calm their nerves.

  1. Another delicious post! I can’t get over the wonderfully narrow streets. Hurrah that they and the town are so sturdily constructed that no one can widen them…
