Nice to Rennes

The heavens opened around 8.15am as we headed off to return the car. That actually sped up the process. The woman at SuperU had no intention of getting wet while she checked our car. All she wanted to know was that we’d filled it up and how many kilometres we’d done.

Actually, the car was much cleaner than when we’d picked it up!! She would have been impressed.

Our host was flying (to Frankfurt) out from Nice at the same time as us this morning, but the usual 50 minute trip to Nice Airport from his home took a bit longer because it was bucketing down.

Note the lightning bolt above Mick’s head. This meant lots of planes weren’t landing, and many were ‘en retard‘. Late!

Including ours. Never mind.

We love the way the French love their dogs. Check out these two cuties in the line up next to ours, waiting to board their flight.

Our flight left 30 minutes late but by then, the sun was shining. Look at the view of Nice we got as we took off.

As we were flying into Rennes, the capital of Brittany, we saw these amazing farms.

We normally insist on using public transport in foreign countries as we’ve been taken advantage of several times. But today, we’d decided to take a taxi from the airport to our hotel, which was in the old part of the city, and we hit the jackpot. A female driver. She was great. Plus, I hate to say this, but my ‘little’ knowledge of French may have helped.

Our hotel was fantastic – it is built inside a 16thC building and we think we’re the only ones here tonight.

Check out our room.

And our patio…

And our common dining room where our breakfast will be served tomorrow.

We hit the streets on a pub crawl and it became very confusing – mainly because my map was telling us we were on the Rue de Saint Michel, but on Mick’s tourist map it was called the Rue de Soif (the street of thirst) – pubs and bars galore.

More stories about this city tomorrow.

We head to St Malo on a train at 1pm.
