House Sitting 2019 – Assignment #2

This time, a relatively short house sit, caring for a rescue dog and two rescue cats; all we were warned were needy. But aren’t we all?

So you can understand where we are at the moment, I have included the following map showing the directions to the commune from Auch.

As with all house sits, except for the last one because we had been there before two years earlier (and we are going back again now in October this year), we had never met the home owner or the animals before. Everything is done online.

The drive to Bouzigon took us through lots of farmland, and everything here looks so green.

One of our favourite pastimes is visiting local wineries, and we plan on doing a bit of that while we are here. This area is very different from the area around Perpignan where we have been for almost three months, because here the most common wines are white wines, and a spirit called Almagnac and fortified wines called Floc. Once we are a bit more knowledgeable about them I’ll post some information for the wine buffs. We have learnt so far that there are at least four different grape varieties grown here that we have never heard of before.

As with most house sits, we shared the first night with the owner where we met the animals and learnt their routines. One of the cats is very shy and we may not see too much of her while we are here, although Mick has taken that as a challenge and is confident before the end of our stay he will have won her over.

He did very well winning over the dog.

The home is a converted barn on two levels. It has been very tastefully decorated and is very cosy. There is a big back yard adjacent to unfenced vineyards that we are to use to take the dog for a walk. Before we agreed to sit, we were told that the dog has to come with us everywhere. France is very relaxed about dogs in shops and restaurants, and as it is for such a short stay, we think this will be fine. I am unsure though who is going to get the front seat next to me yet!
