Pizza in Montpellier

IMG_5650Mick and I love to try quirky places to eat. It is often in the smaller places that we can have a chat with a local and can practise our French conversational skills. And, over a meal or a wine always helps our confidence.

We spotted this one day as we were walking back to our house sit and it caught our interest.

This looked like a fenced in backyard, and the ‘restaurant’ was actually set up in a converted garage. Quirky enough for us.

So, last night we decided we would try it, and when we arrive around 7.30pm, we were the first ones there.

IMG_5755The sun was still streaming in as we sat at the plastic-covered tables, taking in all the decorations, most of which were empty bottles of beer and old kitchen utensils.

We started to chat with Maria, who told us she was Sicilian, and that she had grown up a few miles south of Palermo. She was surprised we were staying in France for the year and happily chatted with us while preparing our pizzas and while taking orders that started to come in over the phone.

The only negative was that there was no wine, only beer, and soft drinks of course. We later found out that had we brought our own that would have been alright, even though that is very, very rare over here. Sadly we leave tomorrow, otherwise we would have been back.

Excellent pizzas and an excellent experience.
