An Afternoon in Perpignan

Our host insisted she take us out to lunch today to thank us for caring for her home and Sammy, and for managing the invasions of the unwanted and uninvited visitors while she was away. So, Mick and I happily agreed and were driven into Perpignan where we then walked through part of the city we had never seen before. It was a real eye-opener. Perpignan is a very interesting city. Up until yesterday, I thought Perpignan was a pretty ugly city.

Our host was able to book us into a very popular restaurant close to La Cathéderale, called “17”.

We had the set menu for €25 each – three courses, with the main a piece of beautifully pan-fried fish. But the dessert plate looked so pretty.

We then visited the Cathédrale, and with it being All Saints Day, and a public holiday, there were quite a few floral tributes on display.

The statue on the left was of Saint Rita – a new one for me.

Our next stop was the Musée D’Art where we saw the Rodin and Maillol exhibition. I have mentioned before that I really like Rodin’s work, and this exhibition had pieces of work from each artist, side by side, showing the similarities and the radical differences between their work. They were mutual admirers of each other as well.

Some of the works were quite large.

Again, Rodin’s is on the left. Mick was trying to read about the works. As with most museums and galleries we have visited this year, the text is in French (of course), but the English translations are usually so small, they are almost impossible to read.

Mick and I had seen this next statue at another gallery this year. I think it was in Dijon.

The final piece I’ll share is this wall panel – and yes it was as green as is shown in the photo.IMG_8119We spent well over an hour looking at the selection of works before saying farewell to our host as she dropped as at Perpignan Gare, and she returned to care for Sammy.
