This new house sit will take us up until New Year’s Eve, which obviously means it is where we will celebrate Christmas, but it will also be where we celebrate my birthday.
We are staying in a suburb called Clifton, famous for its Georgian styled terraces that overlook Bristol city.
They stretch for hundreds of metres, and only 300 metres away is the centre of the village. It has wonderful shops and cafes, and we have been told, is ‘the place’ to go on Friday and Saturday nights.
The owners of this house live in what is called a Garden Flat and their two story apartment is below the footpath level shown in the two previous photos.
But there is still plenty of light, at least on the top floor.
Our bedroom is in a cave on the ground floor.
As mentioned in the last post, this sit has a ‘sad’ twist.
The ‘rescue’ cat we were to care for had to be euthanised two weeks ago following a painful and quick bout of liver cancer. The owners were devastated, and quite rightly could have cancelled Mick’s and my ‘booking’ to stay in their gorgeous apartment in the swanky part of Bristol, but instead – they insisted we still come.
Little signs are everywhere of the sadly-missed cat.
Mick and I are very happy the owners insisted we stay – on the pretext there were plants to water as well. There are two plants, but their cleaner comes each week and she could have cared for them quite easily. Anyway, we feel pretty lucky, and we have identified a few little jobs we can do to ‘surprise’ them when they get home.
We really enjoyed our week in Bristol during our first house sit for the vicar and his wife, and we feel sure we will find new and different places to explore during the next three weeks. As well. our son and his girlfriend are coming to visit for a few days before Christmas – they will stay at an Airbnb nearby, but we have some nice outings and meals planned.
