Exeter

IMG_0220Exeter is famous for its Cathedral, which was founded in the 11th century. Mick and I went to explore it on our last full day in Exeter. But, we baulked at paying £7.50 each to take a look inside. So instead we enjoyed a walk around the outside while there was a break in the clouds.

IMG_2665We then walked on towards the quay. We had been told there were some cute coffee shops down there – but if there were, we missed them.

The one we chose was a shocker. But never mind – it did not ruin our day.

IMG_6456We then walked back towards the high street and were pleased to find some quite old buildings that had been converted into modern shopping centres.

IMG_4935The best thing we saw was this mural, which when we looked more closely was actually a carving – the plaster had been carved to create the image of a woman. I do not know who she is, or was, but it was very clever.

I did some research and found that it was commissioned by Urban Outfitters. It was first painted on the wall and then chiseled out. The artists was Alexandre Farto, from Portugal.

IMG_7519Exeter is not really a tourist destination. Figures indicate that around 7% of employment here is linked to tourism. Regardless, Mick and I found quite a lot to see and do here.

Today we catch a National Express bus to Heathrow Terminal 2, where we will catch a flight to Bangkok later this evening. Our major adventure is coming to an end, but not before we get to spend four nights in Bangkok.
