Pemberton Tram and a Winery Lunch

Yes, there are vineyards here as well. So of course, we had to try at least one of them.

For lunch today we visited the Hidden River Estate – set in picturesque surroundings, looking across towards a large avocado orchard (Pemberton is famous for its avocados as well). Before taking our seat, we asked if we could have a wine tasting – to ensure we selected the best wine with our lunch. Sadly, the tasting experience was rushed and uninformative.

But the afternoon improved.

We selected their 2020 Sauvignon Blanc, and our meals were excellent.

Our morning had started with a trip on the famous Pemberton Tram (as mentioned yesterday).

We arrived early to ensure we got a ticket. Yesterday, the afternoon tram had been fully booked, but this morning there was only 17 passengers. We both were hoping to get a good close look at the magnificent Karri trees, but in fact, while the journey was very pleasant, we did not get to see many large trees at all.

Our tram driver provided a great commentary during the 75 minute journey.

He stopped the tram at a small waterfall he called ‘Cascades’ where we were able to walk around and get a look at some of the bridges that support the tracks.

The tram service is a privately owned tourist venture that started in the 1980s.

We are expecting to see some really large Karri trees tomorrow on our way to Denmark.

Ever since Mick read Bill Bryson’s description of the Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk in “Down Under” he has been keen to experience it for himself.
