Hopetoun to Esperance

Farm Gate Art Trail is a thing. Ravensthorpe Regional Arts Council has sponsored at least 32 of these artworks in its area. We had spotted quite a few fabulous sculptures yesterday, and this morning I stopped and took a photo of one example. Pretty clever.

We saw more road trains on the back roads today, and when we arrived at Esperance we saw the Esperance Grain Terminal. It regularly receives more than 1 million tonnes of grain direct from growers each harvest.

That explains all the trucks.

This is the furthest east we will go in Western Australia. And to be honest, I think it is far enough. We have travelled more than 2000km so far.

We will spend two nights in Esperance which is famous for its beautiful beaches and ultra white sand.

I’ve mentioned we have had fantastic weather this trip, but our luck has just changed. It was very windy when we arrived, and it is predicted to be worse tomorrow. So Mick’s planned fishing excursion has been cancelled.

But I’m sure we will find other things to do.

We are staying right on The Esplanade where a lot of work has been done to beautify the area and to provide safe swimming spots, by fencing the area off (from sharks I guess).

Another thing Esperance is famous for is its brewery – The Lucky Bay Brewery. We paid it a visit for lunch today. It promotes itself as “a microbrewery with a difference making genuine, uniquely local craft beer.”

It grew very busy while we there. And the wood fired pizza oven got a serious workout.

Mick tried the Cyclops IPA and rated it as one of the best he’s had.

And, I think I found the best “loo-formation” ever. This brewery obviously takes women’s safety seriously. It would be great if other venues adopted a similar system.

Maybe they do and I just don’t get out enough.
