Return Trip to Western Australia

Last November, Mick and I headed to Western Australia to spend 3+ weeks exploring the Margaret River wine growing region and the scenic Western Australian Great Southern Region. It was our first time to these parts of the state, although we had been to Perth before. We had such a good time, that when we had the chance to re-visit, we jumped at it.

Reading my posts from our last trip reminded me of the hoops we needed to jump through relating to COVID rules, in order to fly from Brisbane to Perth. The WA border was only open for a few weeks late in 2021, and we were super lucky to have booked our trip during that ‘window’.

This trip is going to give us the chance to re-trace some of our steps, re-visit some of the wineries we really enjoyed, as well as visit some we missed.

Our youngest son and his fiancée have made the move from England in order to spend 6+ months working in Australia. And, as luck would have it, our son has chosen a new pathway – and his new line of work fits very nicely with Mick’s and my hobby – wine tasting! Our son is working in the (Margaret River) wine industry. So during this trip, on the days when he is not working, we will have an ‘expert’ guide, and now local, to take us to some new wineries.

Tomorrow we will fly from Brisbane to Perth, collect a hire car and make our way to Fremantle for the evening, before heading to Busselton for a week.

This time we are flying with Virgin Airlines (where everything costs extra), and our return tickets cost us a lot more ($765 each) than our Qantas flights in 2021(at $150 each and 36,000 points). It’s hard to make a fair comparison with the points – but everything has gone up in price.

We’re very much looking forward to it.
