Day 4 Konigstein

We walked through the woods with Boppa for about 4 km (and for one hour as we had plenty of stops for the dog) to get to a well known and highly recommended restaurant in Rettershof. We were the first to get there and spent quite a while working out what we wanted. Luckily there was a menu with explanations in English.

We met a beautiful horse on the way, and Michael and Boppa were keen to say hello.

Michael tossed up between the wild boar medallions or venison goulash with a local type of pasta. He chose the wild boar.

I was interested in the beginner’s sausage platter where you got 6 different sausages with mashed potato and sauerkraut, but I did not think I could eat 6 and I have had something like that before. So, I chose instead a vegetable strudel with tomato cream sauce.

This place uses a lot of its own produce and also makes an apple cider, which Michael tried. It was vey dry which surprised us both. He really enjoyed it.

Michael’s boar was beautifully cooked and came with a peach, cranberry sauce and fried potatoes with speck. He loved it.

Mine was a big disappointment.

The strudel looked as though it was made a week ago. The pastry was rubbery. I should have tried the goulash…. Or anything else. Not cheap either @ €12!

It cost €41 for the meal and two drinks each.

Another 50 minute walk to get home. A bit harder after two wines/ciders.
