I thought that was a lot, but the country that shares its borders with the most countries is Russia, with 14 neighbours. (or ex-family????)

As our flight to Bangkok did not leave until 11.30pm we decided to take a full day trip to Bratislava. It is only 80 Km from Vienna.

We started with a bus trip and returned on a high-speed catamaran enjoying the relatively unspoilt countryside along the Danube.

Bratislava has just over 460,000 people, making it slightly larger than Tallinn (Estonia).

We had a tour guide for a walking tour and later caught a funny train / tram up to Bratislava Castle. The bridge in the background has a restaurant called the UFO. I am sure you can work out why.

We met two women from Albury in Australia who knew Mick’s sister Fran.

This is a view of the Danube from the Castle.

Bratilava has a quaint old town, and that’s where we spent most of our time. We think we’d like to come back here at some stage and perhaps use it as a base or starting point for exploring other areas nearby.

We packed our lunch so we didn’t waste the food we’d bought.

Mick enjoyed a few hard boiled eggs at the Castle stop.

Waiting for our boat.

We noticed lots of small fishing shacks with nets on the Austrian border side of the Danube.

We did buy two of Slovakia’s traditional foods / drink; two pozsony @ €1 each. One was filled with poppy seeds and one with walnuts. They were amazing. We also bought a very small bottle of Borovika, highly recommended by Edward, and at 50% alcohol, a small sip was all Mick needed before our long flight to help him sleep. It cost 90cents.
