We are experiencing rain at the moment, which is nice for a change. We know it is so very dry at home in Australia and hope it gets some good rains soon.

Our day trip today took as south west from our location, through Coutances, a very pretty-looking city, to Granville on the Atlantic Coast and it is from here that ferries can take passengers to Jersey and Guernsey.
We stopped at the harbour and noticed this boat which is one of the ferries, but we saw quite a few other smaller boats, many of them ‘beached’ as is was mid tide.

This city is a seaside resort, but it didn’t look its best today. On our stroll around the harbour foreshore we spotted a shop selling very fresh seafood. Apparently, it once was an important cod fishing port and was the very first shellfish port in France. The prices were too high for us though.
One other famous tourist attraction of this city is the Christian Dior Museum; Christian was born in Granville in 1905. Mick was not interested in visiting it – so we didn’t.
The town was occupied by Vikings in the 11th Century and then later by a supporter of William the Conqueror.
The town wall fortification was undergoing repair as we drove past. And we could understand how important the location of this city would have been to William the Conqueror – it provided a great view out to sea.

I am sure I have not done Granville justice with these shots, but because of the rain, we only drove through the cuter looking parts of it and I couldn’t take photos at the same time.
We plan on heading north west tomorrow.
I wonder is there a connection between this Granville and the Granville in Western Sydney?
After our travels today, I do not think so. every second village was called “something’ville!!
