Bus Tour Day 1 Berlin

No Mick did not deface this poster. It was at our tram spot this morning as we headed off for a bus tour of Berlin. Little did we know that this was just the start of our observations of how much Angela Merkel is disliked by some Germans.

We thought we would not do too much walking today, as there were gentle showers all day. But we were wrong.

We bought ourselves a two-day, three tour ticket on the Red hop on hop off bus. Our hostess has suggested the Yellow tour bus, but we liked the idea of the three tours. We (thought we) knew better.

We found out perhaps why the Yellow was better. Every few stops, the drivers would need a 20 minute rest!! The promised two hour tour took almost double that. Glad we’ve got tomorrow as well. We picked a few places we want to get off for a longer look.

We visited the Olympic Park and Bell Tower, where Mick got right into the spirit of the location.

When we returned to the Hauptbahnhof Mick was stopped by the Police – I kid you not. “Where are you going?” The hop on hop off bus was his reply so we were allowed through. Polizei everywhere.

A demonstration was about to take place. If you click the link you can read a brief summary, but essentially “Merkel must Go”.

We had to walk about 2km to find the relocated bus stop as many roads were closed.

Then, on our way home, the tram that yesterday dropped us at our front door took a sharp right turn way too early and headed away from where we wanted to go. That resulted in Another 1 km extra walk after we realised our route was one affected by the demonstration.

More demonstrations are planned for Monday. I’m glad we’re not flying out that day as it could be a problem.
